Journalism and Ethical Standards

The Daily Caller News Foundation is dedicated to providing readers with accurate and trustworthy news. Accordingly, we maintain high standards of accuracy, transparency, and fairness. Our journalists undergo regular training in best reporting practices, and they are required to abide by strict ethical standards when on the job. Here are the key tenets of our journalistic and ethical standards which are based on industry best practices:

We maintain a firewall between editorial staff and donors: We maintain complete editorial independence from donors, and we go to great lengths to ensure reporters are free to pursue the truth and follow a news story wherever it leads.

We will rely on confidential or anonymous sources only as a last resort, and only when the public interest demands it. We demand transparency from government officials and public actors, so we should hold ourselves to the same standard.

We respect privacy interests: We avoid publishing salacious or titillating personal information as “click bait,” and we believe that matters such as personal and family life should be treated with good taste.

The press has no special “right” to break laws in pursuit of a story: We are truth tellers dedicated to exposing wrongdoing. Knowingly violating the law in pursuit of the story is wholly unethical.

All complaints about a story’s accuracy or fairness must be taken seriously: We are committed to giving everybody a fair hearing if they believe a story is unfair or incorrect. Complaints about a story should be emailed to [email protected]. If a correction is warranted it will be published as soon as possible. Serious errors will be highlighted at the top of a story.

Published articles are labeled appropriately: Articles purely representing the author’s opinion are labeled as Opinion and found under our “Big Tent Ideas” section. If you’d like to submit an opinion piece, please email [email protected].

All content created by the Daily Caller News Foundation, an independent and nonpartisan newswire service, is available without charge to any legitimate news publisher that can provide a large audience. All republished articles must include our logo, our reporter’s byline and their DCNF affiliation. For any questions about our guidelines or partnering with us, please contact [email protected].
